27 January 1510 – Death of Sir Thomas Brandon, soldier, courtier and diplomat.He was from a Lancastrian family, the son of William Brandon of Southwark and Elizabeth Wingfield , daughter of Sir Robert Wingfield of Letheringham, Suffolk. He was uncle to Charles Brandon, 1st Duke of Suffolk. His brother, William, was killed at the battle of Bosworth defending the standard of the future Henry VII. A contemporary manuscript speaks of Sir Thomas as having ‘greatly favoured and followed the party of Henry, earl of Richmond.’
1541 – Anne of Cleves granted parsonage and lands at Haverhill
1596 – Death of Francis Drake, English captain and explorer
1606 – Gunpowder Plot: The trial of Guy Fawkes and other conspirators begins, ending with their execution on January 31.
